5th Edition of Piny Luo Festival Kicks Off at Rongo University, Blending Luo Heritage with Economic Opportunity
The 5th Edition of the Piny Luo Festival officially kicked off at Rongo University in Migori County, drawing hundreds of participants to celebrate Luo heritage through vibrant cultural performances, innovative exhibitions and trade-focused initiatives.
This year’s festival fuses rich Luo traditions including electrifying music, dance, crafts, storytelling and cultural displays with dynamic trade opportunities.
Attendees were treated to electrifying music and interactive exhibitions showcasing the powerful fusion of cultural heritage and economic prosperity.
The event also features sports activities and guided visits to cultural sites like the Thimlich Ohinga caves, promoting education, tourism, and entrepreneurship.
Principal Secretary for Trade, Regina Ombam graced the official opening of the festival and underscored the critical role of culture in fostering trade and prosperity.
“Culture is the new trade frontier, the Luo people’s vibrant traditions, crafts, music and stories serve not just as sources of pride, but as drivers of economic growth and global exchange,” said PS Ombam.
Other guests who attended the event include Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, among other dignitaries.
