NAIROBI – Kenya and the United States are set to hold their first in-person round of
conceptual discussions under their Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership (STIP)
in Washington, DC, from Monday 6th to Friday 10 February, 2023. The Kenyan
delegation will be led by Trade Principal Secretary Alfred K’Ombudo. Both delegations
include representatives from several other Government agencies.
The Kenya – US STIP was launched on 14th July, 2022 with the two countries
announcing their Governments would pursue enhanced engagement leading to high
standard commitments in a wide range of areas.
The goal of the Partnership is to increase investment; promote sustainable and inclusive
economic growth; benefit workers, consumers, and businesses (including micro-, small-,
and medium-sized enterprises); and support African regional economic integration.
On 13th September 2022, US Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai led the
US Presidential delegation to the inauguration of Kenyan President William Ruto in
Nairobi. Ambassador Tai later met with Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria virtually on 3th November, and in-person on 12th December, 2022 where the CS confirmed the Kenyan
Government’s strong interest in continuing to pursue the STIP initiative.
