Mr. John Wamwana is the Director of Weights and Measures, bringing over 35 years of distinguished experience in legal metrology. He began his career in 1991 as a trainee in the Department of Weights and Measures and has since built an extensive portfolio of expertise in both local and international metrology standards and practices.
Mr. Wamwana holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microprocessor Technology and Instrumentation from the University of Nairobi. He also possesses an Advanced Certification from the Institute of Trade Standards Administration (Kenya) and is an active member of the Institute of Trade Standards Administration (ITSA).
Throughout his career, Mr. Wamwana has played a pivotal role in advancing legal metrology in the East African region. He has trained legal metrology professionals from the EAC Partner States of Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi, contributing to the harmonization and strengthening of regional standards.
Internationally, Mr. Wamwana represents Kenya as a member of the International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML), the governing council of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML). He also serves as Chair of the AFRIMETS (Intra-Africa Metrology System) Legal Metrology Technical Committee on Policy and Legislation, and Chair of the EAC Legal Metrology Experts committee, where he continues to shape policy and legislative frameworks to promote fair trade and consumer protection.
Mr. Wamwana’s leadership, expertise, and commitment have been instrumental in advancing legal metrology both regionally and globally.
